Cathedral Park Place is a saga that is just hitting its stride. Formerly the home of Columbia Sportswear, this space came on-line in the fall of 2003, following a summer long art exhibit and extravaganza called "The Modern Zoo." Located next door to Cathedral Park, twelve minutes from the Pearl District, this is going to be one of Portland's unique creative communities for the next twenty years. There is 280,000 square feet of space on a five acre site that consists of fifteen separate buildings joined together over the last ninety years. Multiple use spaces are everywhere, featuring arched brick windows, skylights, hardwood floors, and powerful views of the majestic St. Johns Bridge. Over 120 current tenants include photographers, painters, writers, graphic artists, booksellers, software designers, sculptors, poster artists, publishers, printers, florists, and furniture makers.
In the courtyard, overlooked by the cafe, Occidental Brewing and St Johns Winesellers anchor the "Entertainment District". It's a little out of the way, but this dynamic collaboration of so many creative enterprises in one complex makes CPP an exciting place to work and spend time.
