River Street Studios
River St Studios perches above the Willamette River in the gritty enclave of the Lower Albina Industral District. Sister complex to the Seed Company ( located one block away) these two buildings, in their former lives were home to Portland's Fire Boat Station #2, and offices for Willamette Valve. Converted to offices and studios in the early 1980s, the distinctive arched architecture of the 1929 fire boat station is a well known landmark to river rats and westside river dwellers, who have a clear view of it from the Portland Police horse stables on the west side of the river. River St. Studios feature wonderful views of Portland's working river. Ships load grain and unload cement right outside the building. This unique industrial ambience makes for one of the most interesting visual tableaus in the city. The building is heated, air-conditioned and home to architects, film makers, artists, writers, photographers, potters, and print makers.
